Those who've played a lot of Phantasy Star Online will be familiar with the online features that SEGA have delivered to us over the last 6 years. However, although there's some nice to see returning features carried over from PSO, PSU has a few more nice surprises that'll make the online game appeal to you, whether it's on PC, over PlayStation2 Network Play, or on Xbox Live.
When you start the online game for the very first time, you'll begin in your room (As it's the home to all the tutorial's you'd ever need!). However, anytime you restart the online game, you'll be asked if you'd like to continue playing from where you last stood, or back in your room. But where-ever you start from, it won't be long before you start "ooooh" and "ahhhh"-ing at the huge online world that's available to explore in PSU!
The Guardians Colony
Playing online in the Guardians Colony, you'll be able to explore 5 massive floors!

On the first/ground floor is the main meeting lobby. The Guardians Colony homes a huge water fountain in the middle of a nice open area that makes chatting and meeting up with your mates for a bit of online multiplayer action a pleasant experience - Even if you're spending ages waiting for them too!

On the second and third floors are the Shopping Malls! Spread across two floors, there's plenty to go and browse at alongside your friends without having to start a new game alike in Phantasy Star Online. There's a Weapon Shop, Item Shop, Armors Shop, Weapon Upgrades Shop, Synthesis Shop & Room Decorations Shop, while on the upper mall floor, there's a makeover palor, clothes and parts shop, opposite a few 'Coming Soon' features.

The fourth floor of the colony homes the PPT Spaceport. Here you can travel to any of the other three planets in the Universe's Gurhal System, or your party can start a mission by travelling on the Linear line!

On the fifth floor is the Guardian's HQ. Here you can find out more information about the character races, and choose a character type for yourself. You can choose to be either a Human, Ranger or Force. Changing your characters type will adjust their abilities and stats, alongside which weapons they are able to use, etc. You can change your character's type at any time in the game at this counter. On this floor you can also undertake special missions from the Guardians.
Parum
Entering Parum, you start at the Central Square in Holtes City. Think of Parum as a very advanced futuristic planet. It's a huge open area with a city built to constantly evolve. All of the areas are fairly wide open and there's a nice atmosphere in the place!

The East District of Parum let's you travel to the Guardians HQ and once again take on special missions from there, or you can travel on the Linear line and take on normal missions with your party!
In the West District are a select number of shops, plus a huge GRM warehouse which sells all GRM manufactured products. You can also run to the floor below and catch the Linear line to again take on missions.
Neudaiz

When travelling to Neudaiz, the first place you come to is Ohtoku City. Here lies a Yohmei superstore which sells only Yohmei manufactured goods, among other normal shops. There is of course also a Guardians HQ Branch where you can undertake special missions, or you can take the Linear line to the normal mission enquiry route.
Neudaiz is a much quieter and peaceful city. With it's amazing surroundings and views, it's a place you really can relax in for hours and just take in all the nice sights!
Parties

In PSU, you can create a party of upto 6 players. This allows you to see their character's background as well as where abouts they are, should they go off travelling, and always stay in contact with them.
The main reason for the new party play are for the missions. When you start a mission, your party accompanies you and battles through the missions alongside you.
The Leader of the party is the person who can invite new party members and choose to start a new mission, as well as abandon a mission, among other abilities.
To invite people to your party while playing, simply go through the main menu. When you have been invited to a party, an icon will appear in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen next to your character's stat bar. All of your party members stat bars will appear above yours when they join the group.
Partner Cards

Alike Guild Cards in Phantasy Star Online, Partner Cards allow you to find your friends with ease and be able to remain in contact with them for as long as you have their Partner Card!
Partner Cards contain key information including your player ID & character name, as well as a small segment of information of which you can write yourself.
Simple Mail
It's like E-Mail, but without having the quit the game! Again alike PSO, you can contact other players by simply typing out a message and sending it to them providing you've got their Partner Card.
